More Stories Julian Tells

for ages 5 to 9

In this, the second book of Julian's adventures, you will learn that frogs do (sometimes) wear shoes, that Julian's friend Gloria can (with with help) move the sun, that Julian's little brother Huey is (with practice) as brave as Superboy. You will also see what happens when Julian calls his little brother names (and his father overhears), and you will surely hope that the river near Julian's house flows straight to the sea.

Rather than taking children to a world very unlike their own, these stories reveal the magic of every day life. Children finish the book feeling their own lives are important and special, because the things that happen to Julian are just the sort of things that happen to them.

"Comfortable is a word that comes to mind when reading this book. Although Julian is black, there is a universality about his experience and observations that relate to all children. ...His allure does not derive from any contrived 'black experiences' but from being an interesting character in his own right."--American Visions

"One of the author's strengths is her ability to impart such lessons as an older sibling's responsibility for a younger one and the meaning of friendship."--Essence

"Cameron's words sing and the relationships are lovingly in tune."--Chicago Sun-Times

"Cameron is a virtuoso storyteller with a gift for revealing the heart and soul of childhood in her stories."--Parents
